What you may do with a published Tracemate bin.

New publishes default to CC BY 4.0. That is an open license: anyone, including Tracemate, may share, remix, and sell prints if they credit the creator. Non-commercial (NC) licenses are the opt-out. NC means nobody sells prints of that bin, including Tracemate.

Can I sell prints of a published bin?

Yes when the license is CC BY 4.0, CC BY-SA 4.0, or CC0. No when the license is CC BY-NC, CC BY-NC-SA, or all rights reserved.

Do I have to credit the creator?

Yes for every CC BY family license. No for CC0. All rights reserved does not grant a remix or resale right, so credit is not the useful question.

What is a remix of a bin?

Changing the cutout, combining objects, resizing the grid, or publishing a derived STL. ShareAlike licenses require that derived public model to stay under the same license.

Existing shares without a CC license

Bins published before licensing shipped, and any share whose owner has not picked a license, stay all rights reserved. Downloaders may print a copy for personal use. They may not remix or sell prints. We do not auto-apply CC BY 4.0 to those bins.

Why the default is CC BY 4.0

Makers already know Creative Commons. CC BY is open, requires credit, and allows selling prints. That is the honest default for a public gallery: the same commercial-print right is available to the creator, to other makers, and to Tracemate. If you do not want anyone selling prints, pick an NC license before you publish.

We do not offer ND (no derivatives) licenses. Remixing is how Gridfinity bins get reused. We also do not offer GNU, BSD, or a custom “standard digital file license.”

Changing, unpublishing, and what the license does not cover

Changing the license or turning Publish off does not recall copies someone already downloaded. The new license applies to future downloads. Unpublishing hides the public page and drops the bin from the gallery. It does not wipe the stored license or the history.

Unpublished and private STLs stay under Terms §7.2: personal, non-commercial use of the generated file. The public license applies only after the owner publishes.

Gridfinity itself remains attributed to Zack Freedman under its MIT license. A bin license does not replace that. See Terms §11.

Copyright in purely functional shapes is thin. A license here covers the model file and creative choices in the design. A purely functional outline may not be protectable. This page is not legal advice.
